There are so many shops in the market that is selling children’s educational toys. Except for the very few exception ones, most of these educational toys not only does not benefit for your children, but are harmful actually. All the toys claimed to address certain development needs of the children. In fact, the only needs they addressed are those of the parents who are buying the toys.

Let us ask you a serious question. Why do you want to buy children’s educational toys? Chances are that because you want your children to develop as a wholesome person. You must have read somewhere that unless your children learn to read and write and learn algebra earlier during the toddler’s life, he is likely to be left behind compared to other children.

A 5-year old child who could speak two languages, recite A to Z, sing contemporary songs, play the piano, recite the multiplication tables is ‘normal.’ Any child who could not do it is otherwise branded as ‘slow’ and ‘weak’. Is this not the value and perception that children’s educational toys marketer is trying to impose on you, the parents consumer?

Read their sales pitch. They are just salesperson. They may be just interested in how well their product sells, not how wholesome your child develop. In today’s world, unfortunately many parents are subscribing to the view as mentioned in the paragraph above. Childhood becomes nothing than a dress rehersal for the adult’s world.

Face it. A child who learns earlier do not necessary means that he will learn better. So what if your neighbour’s kids could read when he is only 5 years old. By the time they are all in their third grade, all of them could read all the same. In fact, a kid who is learning ahead of the school’s curriculum most often find that schooling is a bored, because he ‘already knew it’.

The best way to help a child develop to be a wholesome person is to allow him to play. When it comes to playing, children can be very creative. Most of the time, you will find that a child can play even when he does not have any toy to play with. Many thought that a child needs to be nurtured to learn. That is why you need to buy these educational toys and those educational toys. Sounds familiar?

The truth is, children are born with the instinct to learn. They are like dry sponge absorbing every single drop of water. The best way to kill off a child’s instinct to learn is to kill of his interest to learn. So, go ahead and buy him more ‘educational toys’ that is supposed to make him a whiz kid. Go and buy him more of those children’s educational software that will say ‘Apple’ when he taps ‘A’.

So, are we saying that children’s educational toys are useless? Certainly not! What we are saying is that children’s educational toys should serve the needs of the children, and not the needs of the parents.

You should not buy children’s educational toys if you think that it is the best substitute for not spending time with your children. You should not buy children’s educational toys just because every other kid seemed to have it and you feel guilty if your child does not have it. You should not buy children’s educational toys because you are worried that your children will not develop well if they don’t have them.

You should not buy children’s educational toys if you think that these toys could automatically helps a child develop in all aspects of his life.
